Performs Facilities Management (FM) construction observations and associated duties to ensure compliance with applicable building and fire codes as well as quality and constructability issues.
Interfaces professionally with project managers, in-house construction manager, EHS/Fire Marshall, other FM staff, and various vendors on a daily basis.
Work includes interpretation of regulations and industry codes; pursuing continuous independent study for fuller understanding of applicable codes and regulations; issuance of safety violations and recommended correction; timely observation of various assigned project types and sites; issuing review reports on observations and project concerns; making recommendations to the Project Manager or owner's representative.
Notifies project manager and supervisor of issues or code violations with photos, using email, or by other means as directed.
Conducts code regulation research and works to stay abreast of code updates and changes as well as recent changes and innovations in area of observation and/or construction trades.
May occasionally require travel to other OSU and A&M project sites outside the OSU Stillwater campus.
Must use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required (gloves, safety vests and glasses, hardhats etc.
).
PPE is provided and not for personal use.
Work often involves mud, dust, dirt, high winds, high noise levels, smoke and noxious odors, low lighting levels, crowded spaces, insects, and weather temperature extremes associated with outside work and work under construction.
Work may include exposures found on building construction sites, including high voltage equipment, steam, high-temperature water, open mechanical and rotating equipment, high air pressures, open trenches; working from ladders or heights; areas of friable asbestos and exposure to silica dust; and processes that contain hazardous chemicals, biohazard, and radioactive products.
Job lifting requirements exceed 50 pounds on occasion.
Job site conditions will usually require a hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, and other PPE, as conditions require.

Education & Experience Position Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: High School/GED Five years of experience in Construction and/or Facility Maintenance with three years as construction observer or building plans examiner.
Experience performing construction observations, reporting, documenting, and educating to enforce applicable codes.
Experience in construction plan reviews and plan/progress approvals.
Extensive knowledge of building observations, quality workmanship, and building trades.
An Associates Applied Sciences (AAS) degree in construction technology from an accredited institution may be substituted for the construction or maintenance experience requirement.
Have before hire and maintain after hire: Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
Must have OSHA 30 training certificate or complete OSHA 30 training within 180 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: Associate Applied Sciences (A.
A.
S.
) degree in construction technology with building observation.
Six years Construction and/or Facility Maintenance experience and four years as construction/building inspection, and/or plans examiner.
Certified Commercial Building Inspection certificate.
Two or more Program Certifications approved by the ICC, Oklahoma DOL, CCPIA, or certified commercial building program.
Certified Commercial Building Inspection certificate.
Ability to train others in the skills of performing proper building observations for OSU.
