Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalency required.
Minimum of one year work experience in construction or related field and experience working with youth preferred.
Basic carpentry skills mandatory, advanced carpentry skills preferred.
Must have experience directing or training others in the application of basic construction processes.
Physical Requirements: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently to move objects, heavy tools and parts.
Physical elements include stooping, kneeling, reaching.
Engage in sitting, standing and walking throughout the day.
Must be able to drive a car or to travel to jobsite.
Must have the ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations.
Other Requirements: Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate to a wide range of issues, people, and institutions.
Must be a flexible, energetic, and positive individual who is committed to the education and development of youth in a high-quality respectful environment.
Have a sense of humor and nonjudgmental attitude.
This position requires a highly collaborative person who can work as part of a team.
General Description: The CDSA YouthBuild Construction Trainer is under the direct supervision of the CDSA YouthBuild Coordinator and is responsible for the on-site and off-site construction training and instruction of the YouthBuild participants.
He/she will work in conjunction with Construction PACT Trainer to help devise and implement a 9-month curriculum that prepares students for the soft and hard skills required to be successful in the workplace and involve outside professionals to work with students on various skills.
*TASKS* § Assist with construction lesson plans and schedule of skills to be learned by YouthBuild participants.
§ Teach construction skills with special emphasis on construction site safety and clean up.
§ Teach the proper use, handling and maintenance of all hand tools, power tools, and equipment, site safety and clean up.
§ Responsible for overall safety enforcement.
§ Define weekly work assignments for students.
§ Model standards for appropriate behavior and ways to handle problems on the construction site § Understand and adhere to Federal, State and Local requirements and Agency polices.
§ Prepare clear and concise oral and written reports, as needed.
§ Oversee AmeriCorps members volunteer activities, engaging members in activities described and approved by CNCS and emphasizing AmeriCorps values.
§ Accept other tasks as assigned by the program coordinator.
Job Type: Full-time Pay: $17.
