Faculty Appt Period: Job Summary: The Communications Specialist will work within Oklahoma State University's Department of Brand Management using writing and editing skills to communicate the brand and help implement OSU's strategic marketing and communications plan, which includes improving recruitment, retention and reputation management.
This individual will enhance OSU's brand awareness among prospective students and their families, current students, employees, alumni, donors and other internal and external populations through their writing and editing skills.
Additionally, they will contribute to key institutional publications including advertisements, print pieces, digital marketing assets and magazines.
Brand Management's Communications Specialist will also be responsible for maintaining relationships within the OSU Office of Brand Management, supporting teams such as graphic designers, web developers and programmers, videographers and enrollment management, as well as outside agencies and consultants, and demonstrates self-direction, creativity and strategic thinking when contributing to projects, and thrives in a collaborative team environment.
KEY DUTIES: Develop, write and edit stories for university publications, magazines, advertisements and websites - primarily news.

Write and edit copy for university advertising/marketing campaigns and websites.
Provide consistent media relations support via media monitoring, research and reporting.
Assist with editorial planning and ensuring departmental consistency.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of individual assignments, related schedules and deadlines.
Complete special projects or contribute unit-based expertise to campus-wide projects as assigned.
Participate in university-wide communications planning and internal/external professional development seminars in order to continuously improve personal performance.
Meet with university partners as appropriate.
Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Position Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field.
Demonstrated experience in publications, newspapers, magazines or related field.
Must demonstrate skills in writing and editing, with knowledge of AP Style.
Must possess excellent people skills and effectively deal with multiple contacts or stakeholders for projects.
Ability to work cross-functionally with supervisors, unit staff and campus partners to ensure collaborative environment, coordinated efforts and maximized outcomes.
Must learn quickly and adapt to quickly changing environments.
Exhibit strong attention to detail as well as the ability to effectively manage multiple assignments with contending priorities and tight deadlines.
Demonstrate creativity, integrity and passion for growing the brand of Oklahoma State University.
Preferred Qualifications: Two-plus years' experience in writing, newspapers, magazines or related field.
