Looking for a small dog/puppy... (Stillwater)

We are looking for a small dog for my son, he is 13 and really good with animals.
We do have 2 cats (around 8-9yrs old) and one other, larger dog (around 60lbs).
The cats are both bonded to my daughter, and our other dog is older and is on pain medication for bone cancer and is bonded to me.
My son had a hamster that did really well, she was almost 3years old which is ancient for a golden hamster.
She passed away a few months ago and my son wants something that will live longer and continue to grow with him and bond to him.
Breed doesn't matter, as long as it isn't long haired.
Age doesn't matter, within reason.
He wants a dog he can play with and take with him around the neighborhood walking.
Gender, doesn't matter, spayed/neutered would be a huge plus.
But not a requirement.
The only requirement is that it must be under 15lbs grown so that my son can handle it on his own for walks and stuff.
I will be helping him train them and oversee the care, but he will be providing most of it under direction so that they bond to him and not me.
We will be looking at the animal shelter as well as online for the right one for him.
A small rehoming or adoption fee is fine, if they have had their shots and are already fixed I would be willing to pay a slightly higher fee.
I can provide vet references if required.
If you have a puppy/dog or know someone else who does and they need a good home for them then please respond to this add with a picture of the animal and a little information about their personality and we will set up a meeting as long as the requirements of 1) short hair and 2) no more than 15lbs grown are met.
My son will be picking out his new companion so a meeting between him and the pup is required before any decision is made.
We can meet anywhere you feel comfortable, as long as it is somewhere public.
