The Certified Nursing Assistant provides basic resident care under the supervision of a licensed nurse and assists in the maintenance of the area environment.
*QUALIFICATIONS*
o Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant and in good standing and currently licensed by the state.
*PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:*
o Completion of secondary education and must be able to read and write in a legible and understandable manner.
o Must maintain regular attendance.
o Must meet all local health regulations, and pass post-employment physical exam if required.
o Must be capable of performing the essential job functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
o Skilled at organizing various duties.
o Must be flexible and able to handle change easily and professionally.
o Must display a willingness to continue to study, learn and implement continuously changing state and federal regulations.

*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB (with or without assistance):*
Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, pushing and pulling, fine hand coordination, ability to hear and respond to pages, ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions; ability to communicate with residents, families, personnel, vendors and consultants; ability to distinguish smells, tastes, and temperatures; and ability to remain calm under stress.
*RESPONSIBILITIES*
o Receives reports regarding the status of assigned residents at the beginning of the shift.
o Gives report to supervising nurse at the end of the shift.
o Performs direct and indirect resident care activities as ordered and consistent with the facility’s policies and procedures.
Such activities include:
o Bathing
o Assist with eating
o Toileting
o Performing perineal care
o Grooming
o Shampooing hair
o Providing oral hygiene and denture care
o Measuring intake and output
o Collecting urine and stool specimens
o Transferring residents from bed, chair, wheelchair
o Assisting residents with use of walker, wheelchairs, canes, braces
o Positioning residents in chairs, beds, wheelchairs, gerichairs
o Turning and changing positions of residents
o Lifting residents (manually and with mechanical lifts)
o Performing range of motion exercises (active and passive)
o Assisting with ambulation
o Making occupied and unoccupied beds
o Weighing residents
o Taking vital signs
o Providing post mortem care
o Practicing universal precautions and special isolation techniques
o Monitoring and releasing residents
o Practices effective communication techniques with residents, visitors and co-workers
o Protects residents from abuse and neglect and report any incidents immediately.
o Follow established performance standards and perform duties according to nursing service policies and procedures.
o Identify resident problems and concerns and report them immediately to a charge nurse or a licensed nurse.
o Complete assignments timely, completely and accurately.
o Conduct resident rounds as assigned.
Report changes in resident’s conditions to Charge Nurse or Nurse Supervisor.
o Initiate corrective action as necessary and/or seek assistance of a licensed nurse.
o Identify safety hazards and emergency situations and initiate corrective action.
o Attend all in-service classes as assigned and complete assignments.
o Assume personal responsibility for following facility procedures related to control of equipment and supplies within the unit.
o Document incidents and/or unusual problems according to established facility procedures.
o Participate in interdisciplinary team and other facility meetings as assigned.
Participate in the development of an individualized plan of care for assigned residents.
Review care plans and perform nursing care as outlined and implement accordingly.
