MAIN FUNCTION
Facilitates the daily operation of all laboratory functions.
Provides training, direction and leadership in the development and implementation of laboratory policies and procedures specific to all laboratory technicians both established and newly appointed.
Oversees the setup, implementation, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory testing equipment.
Assists with the maintenance of the ISO Quality system including updating and maintaining documents, prepping for internal /external audits, and training employees regarding recent changes.
Monitors data results and SPC results for finished product and shipments to customers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Trains each technician to established SOP procedures regarding testing of carbon black.
Trains each technician in procedures for electronic data entry of test data.
Maintains knowledge of laboratory managerial functions, required primarily in the absence of the QI Superintendent.
Must be familiar with the preparation and distribution of customer “Certificate of Analysis”.
Must have a workable knowledge of EDI, QualTrax, Excel, Word, and Prism applications.
Oversees the testing of the finished product material and the timely transfer of data to the appropriate personnel.
Oversees the testing of material and reporting of data for customer releases and shipments.
Ensures that laboratory equipment is in calibration, and that the frequency and routine of calibration checks are in compliance with established limits.
Develops knowledge of ISO procedures and work instructions.
Promotes ongoing safety instruction, awareness and knowledge.
Seeks to promote a positive work environment through proper housekeeping responsibilities.

CHARACTERISTICS
Must have an excellent work ethic, be a team player, flexible and adaptable and able to work in a high volume work environment.
Must be self-reliant as to help lead by example.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, or science-related field preferred.
Two years or more of service in laboratory environment a plus.
