00, Salary Work Schedule: M-F 8am-5pm Faculty Appt Period: Job Summary: The Fire Instruction and Lab Manager is primarily responsible for the curriculum development and instructional delivery of fire-specific protection and loss classes for professional audiences.
The position also serves as the lab manager for the Fire Protection and Safety Technology program's fire and safety lab units.
This position provides subject matter expertise to external stakeholders and clients who are seeking top-quality instruction and testing.
Instructional duties include: Preparing training curriculum for instructional delivery.
Delivery of training courses 25-30 weeks/year, which may range from 2 days to 5 days in length and are typically on-site at Oklahoma State University.
Preparing, administering and correcting testing materials to ensure student retention.
Recommending changes or updates to training courses to reflect industry needs.
Maintaining tools and equipment utilized in training.
Working with Professional Development leadership, coordinators and support staff to ensure quality of training program and recruitment of training participants.
Lab manager duties include: Providing technical engineering support to the FPST laboratories across a range of programs, including academic; research; and extension.
Accomplishing laboratory objectives and meeting laboratory goals.
Leading and supervising undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratories.
Working collaboratively with faculty and students across a variety of topics including, but not limited to, fire dynamics, material flammability and fire suppression.
Interfacing with clients to provide technical and reporting deliverables for standard and customized fire tests.
Overnight travel may be required to attend conferences or provide on-site training as required.
Ability to work on live fire simulations safely.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs on a regular basis to move lab and training equipment.

Demonstrated experience teaching adults in a training or academic department as deemed appropriate by department.
Subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas: fire suppression systems, specifically automatic sprinklers; standpipes; pumps and water distribution; foam; fire detection and alarms; loss prevention; system failure or fire investigation.
Working knowledge of NFPA Standards.
General knowledge of adult education approaches including lecture, demonstration, practice, and experiential learning environments.
Familiarity with lab manager and maintenance activities and tasks.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively between FPST and PD departments to ensure goals of each department are met.
Demonstrated communication and coordination skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering or related fire and safety degree.
Minimum of five years of experience related to fire protection and suppression.
One year of demonstrated experience teaching adults in a training or academic environment PE or CFSP or ability to acquire certification within a year of hire.
