Job Summary:
The academic support center coordinator is one of two coordinators who manage all aspects of peer learning and support programs within their assigned academic subject areas in the LASSO Center, including peer tutoring, supplemental instruction, or other academic support programs.
The Paul Milburn Tutoring Program offers one-on-one peer tutoring in a wide variety of subject areas.
Supplemental Instruction (SI) helps students adjust to the study demands of rigorous college courses, work through difficult concepts, and form study groups that are led by peers who have already successfully completed their assigned SI course(s) following the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) SI model.
The coordinator manages the day-to-day operations of LASSO Center peer-led programs, supervises student employees, and ensures quality service.
This position will include occasional nights and weekends.
Responsibilities include:
- Recruit, train, and manage undergraduate student employees and graduate assistant(s)
- Manage scheduling software
- Maintain relationships with other campus peer-led academic support units, academic departments, and faculty
- Participate in departmental outreach efforts
- Complete administrative tasks and maintain compliance with campus policies
- This position will also assist department leadership with projects in support of Student Success
- Other duties as assigned
This position reports to the Assistant Director of the LASSO Center.

Education & Experience
Position Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Two years of experience working in a tutoring, peer learning, or supplemental instruction program or equivalent academic or non-academic experience.
Knowledge of the UMKC SI model.
Effective usage of interpersonal and communication skills, upholding the highest standards of professionalism with key stakeholders.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Ability to set goals, prioritize tasks/multitask, and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree
Two years of experience managing an SI or tutoring program in a higher education setting, providing leadership to students.
Experience creating and delivering professional development and training modules.
Experience with data collection, reporting, and program assessment.
Certified SI Supervisor from the International Center for Supplemental Instruction.
