*_ *Clinical Veterinarian, Animal Resources* *Oklahoma State University* The Animal Resources (AR) Unit of Oklahoma State University (OSU) invites applications for a Clinical Veterinarian.
OSU is a land grant institution with a wide breadth of activities involving live, vertebrate animals including agricultural, biomedical, and wildlife studies.
*Responsibilities:* As Clinical Veterinarian of AR, this individual will have the following responsibilities in providing veterinary care for a variety of laboratory animal and agricultural animals through disease prevention, clinical care, health monitoring, and quality assurance measures.
*Specific Duties include, but are not limited to the following:* 1.
Assisting with the daily management of the centralized laboratory animal program, personnel, facilities, budget, and long-term planning.
2.
Direct supervision of veterinary technician and student personnel; 3.
Providing clinical veterinary care to a myriad of animal species ; 4.
Providing emergency care after­hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis; 5.
Conducting health assessment rounds for animals housed in the University's decentralized animal facilities; 6.
Planning and implementation of preventative medicine programs; 7.
Assisting with the coordination of care provided to University­ owned animals by other veterinarians; 8.
Participating in IACUC activities as a voting member including meeting attendance, protocol review, facility inspections, and program reviews; 9.
Serving on the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC); 10.
Assisting with management of the University's animal care program (Animal Resources); 11.
Assisting in the preparation and review of standard operating procedures and disaster plans for the University's decentralized animal care program; 12.
Training researchers and animal care staff in animal handling, sample collection techniques, compound administration, anesthesia, surgery, regulatory compliance, etc.
; 13.
Assisting with teaching comparative medicine to veterinary students in a didactic elective course; 14.
Conducting veterinary consultations pertaining to animal care and use protocols (ACUPs), (e.
g.
, assisting investigators with animal model selection, study design, protocol development, etc.
); 15.
Assisting the University in maintaining compliance with all applicable animal welfare regulations; 16.
Assisting colleges with maintaining and/or obtaining AAALAC accreditation; 17.
Managing the rodent quarantine and health surveillance programs in consultation with the University's Attending Veterinarian; 18.
In consultation with the Director of Animal Resources, provide input for planning, approval, and supervision of all construction projects that include the housing or use of laboratory animals.
19.
Assisting with oversight and operations of the Cohn Family Shelter for Small Animals, the Camp Redlands Wildlife Facility, and the Wendall Wallace Food Animal Research Facility.
20.
Conducting collaborative research; and 21.
Performing other duties as assigned.
*Required Qualifications:* Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an AVMA-accredited veterinary college, Oklahoma veterinary licensure or the ability to obtain an Oklahoma veterinary license within 3 months of employment.
Minimum of two years of post-graduate clinical experience with laboratory animal species in a biomedical research setting and ACLAM board certification are required, while formal postdoctoral training in laboratory animal medicine is preferred.
