Software Developer will work for the Oklahoma Water Resources Center as a member of a highly motivated team of water resource professionals providing leadership and support for development of the Oklahoma Hydronet.
This grant funded position will develop software and computing infrastructure to automatically ingest new data streams collected from across Oklahoma from sensors deployed via this project, along with other associated data streams, into a central database.
That database will be dynamically linked to a new public website, developed by this position, to allow near real-time display and analysis of soil water, groundwater, and surface water storage levels across the state.
The Developer will be responsible for back-end development (to utilize data captured in portals from the device data streams) and front-end development (to display data and derived information).
The Sr.
Software Developer will work with university administration and faculty; research and Extension personnel; federal and state agencies; and other partners to plan and develop the Oklahoma Hydronet.
Collaboration with state and federal programs is paramount to not only find new solutions to the state’s most critical water needs through research, but to ensure more opportunities for students, faculty and industry partners.

Education & Experience Position Qualifications: Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering, Information Technology/Systems/Science, Physics, or related field At least five years’ experience in: 1) data ingestion, QC, integration, standardization, and database management, 2) developing dynamic and effective visualizations for time series data and spatial data, and/or 3) developing and maintaining high quality, visually appealing websites, including data displays and data download options.
Demonstrated ability to develop, debug, and revise software code in multiple programming languages such as Python, Java, C#, C/C++, SQL, HTML & CSS, JavaScript, Node.
Js, Vue.
Js, R, Terraform, Bash, and PowerShell.
Ability to prioritize tasks and complete these in a timely manner, to the satisfaction of the requestor and analysis specifications.
Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups including water resource personnel from Land Grant Universities and state and federal agencies; Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field Working knowledge of systems used in software application development such as GitHub, GitLab, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, Visual Studio (2019, 2022), IntelliJ IDEA, R Studio, and Office 365.
Sufficient knowledge of hardware and software functions as well as network and operating system specifications to develop new work methods and standards.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Windows Server, and Linux.
Working knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
Experience working with data stored in cloud storage accounts and PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL Server databases.
Skill in programming, scripting, statistics, managing tasks, working in a fast-paced multidisciplinary team environments, managing cloud resources, cybersecurity, and working with large temporal and spatial datasets.
