If you enjoy working outdoors and working with kids, join Lake McMurtry Friends this summer as a Camp Counselor! Counselors are responsible for the care and teaching of campers aged 7-12 in a variety of STEAM and experiential activities related to outdoor recreation.
Each counselor will be directly responsible for leading a group of up to 10 participants each week and assisting the Program Director and the other Counselors as necessary to ensure the safe and fun operation of the camp program.
*Expected employment dates*: May 27 through July 26, 2024
*Camp Dates*: Six sessions—June 3-7, June 10-14, June 17-21, June 24-28, July 8-12, July 15-19
*Camp Activities*: Classroom learning, swimming, kayaking, hiking, simple survival skills, fishing, plant and animal identification, storytelling, challenge course, and other outdoor skills.
*Responsibilities:*
· Teach in a fun and engaging manner the curriculum designed by the Camp and Program Directors
· Directly supervise a group of up to 10 youth participants
· Help care for all camp participants, not just your assigned group
· Assist in Drop-off and Pick-up procedures for participants and parents
· Help maintain and store camp equipment
· Assist in dealing with privacy and interpersonal issues that may arise
· Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or Program Director
*Requirements:*
· Successful Background Check
· First Aid and CPR/AED certification is minimum, Lifeguard and/or WFA is helpful
· Ability to work in outdoors and in the elements in different weather conditions
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
· Valid Driving License
· Possess strong organizational and communication skills
· A passion for outdoor education and youth development
