JOB SUMMARY:
Registers inpatients and outpatients and performs the pre-service data requirements efficiently and accurately by entering the required information into the SMC Patient System.
Uses good customer skills when conversing with patients (face-to-face and over the phone) and presents a professional image of SMC.
Provides and explains all required documents to the patient and answers their questions.
Verifies patients’ insurance data and develops estimates for procedures.
Informs of and/or collects pre-payments from patients and provides appropriate payment options to patients, including the cash pay program and financial assistance.
Uses initiative to maintain the registrar’s administrative responsibilities and to solve registration-related problems.
Supports the resolution of PAS and other department staff problems as they occur.
Keeps ancillary departments and inpatient floor staff informed of problems, delays, and other situations that could impact the delivery of efficient, competent, and compassionate care.
Represents PAS on assigned teams.
Keeps Registration Supervisor/Manager and/or PAS Director informed of patient complaints resolved and resolutions of problem situations.
Participates in performance improvement and CQI.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School graduate or equivalent.
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Excellent customer services skills.
Basic computer knowledge.
Ability to type 40 wpm.
Two years of experience in registration and previous experience as a PAS Registration Specialist II (preferred).
For internal applicants, a minimum of 75% variance of accounts and 98% via QA software.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have adequate perception of sounds or adequate hearing with corrections.
Able to speak clearly and distinctly with staff, patients, and families.
Able to hear to converse with others on the phone.
Able to stand/walk for extended periods of time throughout the work schedule with some lifting and bending.
Demonstrates adequate vision, or correctable with glasses/contacts, to prepare and read documents accurately.
Demonstrates adequate stamina to deal with stressful situations and to complete the necessary work schedule.
Able to work in latex-burdened environment.
Possess fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to manage office.
